The photography of Linda Rossi will be on display in an exhibit entitled “Nature Theater” opening with a reception in the Viterbo University Gallery from 7:30–9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25.Rossi describes her work as “primarily large-scale photo installation including video and sculpture to illuminate both historical and current issues.” Her art has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including at the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg and the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art in Iran. Her work is also part of the permanent collection of the Minneapolis Institute of Art.

“For years, photographer and installation artist Linda Rossi has illuminated the intimate relationship between the human personality and the Earth, seeking to engender our civic response to and reconnection with the sensuality of the planet,” wrote art critic Cynde Randall. “Rossi’s love for nature resonates in her art, leading us to the things we forgot we, too, once loved.”Rossi is an Associate Professor of Art and the Chair of the Art and Art History Departments at Carleton College in Northfield, Minn. She teaches Photography, Digital Photography, and Critical Issues in Contemporary Art.

“Nature Theater” will run until Friday, Feb. 24. There is no admission fee to the gallery, which is located on the third floor of the Fine Arts Center on campus. The gallery is open from 9 a.m.–5 p.m. when school is in session.

 Submit your artwork from 3/30 - 4/6/2011 by 5:00p.m.

 on the submission table outside of the 3rd Floor FAC Gallery.

 Two-dimensional and three-dimensional works accepted.

 You may submit up to three pieces.

 All artwork MUST be labeled.

 Blank labels can be found on the submission table.

 Work will be collected at by 5:00p.m. every night and

 stored for safekeeping.

 Accepted two-dimensional artwork must be framed.

 Work must be ready-to-hang by Tuesday, April 12th.

 How-To-Frame Sessions will be held in FAC Room 317

 on Friday April 8th at 1-3p.m. and April 12th at 5:30-7:30p.m.

 All transportation of the artwork is the responsibility of the artist.

 Unaccepted work will be returned to the submission table outside

 after Monday, April 11th for pick-up.

on paper to create colorful, imaginative worlds with open-ended narratives. The show features both small and large works populated by a variety of intriguing characters and objects like sailors, station wagons, gazelles, swimming pools, telephones, mop buckets, spiders, and rhinos.

THE RAPE OF NANKING EXHIBIT TO OPEN IN VITERBO FINE ARTS CENTER GALLERY JAN. 27th

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The drawings and mixed media of Li Hu will be on display in the Viterbo University Art Gallery in an exhibit entitled “The Rape of Nanking” Wednesday, Jan. 27–Wednesday, Feb. 17.

On February 2nd, Professor Hu will present a slide lecture of his work to the Viterbo community at 3:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center, Room 219. The opening reception for his show will follow in the gallery from 4:30 to 6:30 pm.

Hu is Professor of Art at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in painting from Shanghai University and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of South Dakota. The subject of much of his work is derived from specific historical and literary themes and his personal life experiences in China.
The works in this show are informed by events that happened in the City of Nanking in 1937 when the Japanese invaded that city.

There is no admission fee to the gallery, which is located on the third floor of the Fine Arts Center on the Viterbo campus.

The gallery is open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. when school is in session.
